Privacy at SA Pulse.

SA Pulse is built to help residents follow public meetings. It does not sell personal information, run advertising trackers, or require an account to read the council record.

01

What we collect

If you subscribe, SA Pulse collects your email address, the update list you selected, your confirmation and subscription status, and the dates associated with those actions. The public signup uses a challenge and a hidden spam-trap field to reduce automated abuse.

You can read the website without giving SA Pulse your name, address, phone number, or demographic information.

02

How we use it

Your email address is used only to send the SA Pulse updates you requested, operate double opt-in, honor unsubscribes, and handle delivery problems. SA Pulse does not sell, rent, or use the subscriber list for targeted advertising.

Every new subscription requires a confirmation click before meeting recaps begin.

03

Where it is stored

Subscriber records are managed in Listmonk and PostgreSQL on SA Pulse’s private server. Postmark receives the address, message content, and delivery information needed to deliver email. Postmark acts as the outbound email provider; its own privacy and security terms also apply to that processing.

Subscriber data is backed up daily in encrypted form. The decryption key is kept separately from the server.

04

How long we keep it

An active subscriber record is kept while you receive updates. If you unsubscribe, SA Pulse may retain the address in a suppressed state so the opt-out is honored and the address is not accidentally re-added. If you request deletion, the live subscriber record is removed rather than merely unsubscribed.

Encrypted disaster-recovery backups are not used for mailing and are retired manually. If a backup must be restored after a deletion request, the deletion will be re-applied before normal sending resumes.

05

Export, preferences, and deletion

Each email includes links to unsubscribe and manage your subscription. Listmonk is configured to let subscribers view preferences, export their record, and erase it. You may also email admin@sapulse.org from the subscribed address and ask for an export, correction, or deletion.

SA Pulse will use the request only to verify and complete the privacy action.

06

Website privacy

The public site is static and does not use advertising analytics. Email open and individual click tracking are disabled. A light/dark theme choice may be saved only in your browser. Transcript search runs in your browser after you submit a query; SA Pulse does not receive or store the search terms.

Opening an official recording sends you to YouTube. Opening an on-demand map loads OpenStreetMap. Those services receive the normal information your browser sends when visiting them and apply their own policies.
